The Lost Gardens of Heligan

The award winning Lost Gardens of Heligan, asleep for more than seventy years, are the scene of the largest garden restoration project in Europe. Discovered under a blanket of bramble, ivy, rampant laurel and fallen timber. In the northern gardens are two and a half miles of footpaths, an Elizabethan mount, rockeries, summer houses, a crystal grotto, an Italian garden, a fine set of bee-boles, a wishing well and a superb collection of walled gardens. Remarkably much of the original plant collection has survived, sometimes to record sizes.

To the south lies 'Lost Valley' and 'The Jungle', a sub-tropical valley overlooking the picturesque fishing harbour of Mevagissey, and overflowing with palms, tree ferns, bamboos, gunnera and numerous exotic trees and shrubs. If The Secret Garden and Peter Rabbit captured your childhood imagination, then Heligan will not disappoint you.

Mevagissey

A delightful unspoilt fishing village on the South Coast of Cornwall, its white and colour-washed houses cling on the slopes of the hills encircling the two harbours. This is an enchanting place where fishing still remains one of the main livelihoods.

Mevagissey's labyrinth of tiny streets twist and turn past ancient dwarf dwellings to a traditional fishing harbour. Discover the delights of craft workshops, shops, art galleries, cafes, restaurants and pubs which were once the haunts of Cornish smugglers!

The Eden Project

Eden Project is run by Tim Smit (of Lost Gardens of Heligan fame), who raised money to build the world's largest greenhouse. It has created under one roof, the complete range of natural plant habitats found on the Earth It is believed that cost around £90 million and is one of the most impressive of Britain's Millennium ventures.
